Increase Your Total Merit With DanAvl

In the future, the world’s leading breeding system shall be known by one just name throughout the world:  DanAvl.

A threefold increase of exports makes new demands on branding as well as a better service of the customer.

DanAvl is an open system, in which all parties involved are obliged to adhere to common rules that are established by the "Danish Pig Research Centre". All parties involved with the breeding system have signed a contract with the research centre. The system is open to all who can adhere to the common rules. This openness ensures healthy competition between the different parties involved in DanAvl and is one of the foundation stones for the success of the DanAvl system. Internal competition within the system ensures that all parties involved perform optimally.

Outside of the pure breeding, the people involved in the system also perform activities related to marketing, sales and distribution of breeding material.

The genetic management establishes the breeding objective as well as the conditions and rules for nucleus and multiplier breeding and consists of the board of pig producers from the "Pig Research Centre", with the Genetic Research and Development department being responsible for development of the genetic material.

The nucleus heards carry out the actual breeding within DanAvl, and an ongoing selection process of the animals for the next generation takes place here. The nucleus herds sell boars and sows to multiplier herds and commercial herds and supply boars to the artificial insemination stations.

The nucleus herds are operated as independent breeders owned by the breeders themselves, who have signed a "breeding agreement” with the "Pig Research Centre". This structure ensures that very dynamic breeding is achieved through intensive competition between the breeders to achieve the most progress.

The multiplier herds, multiply the genetic growth that is created in the nucleus herds. The mutiplier herds sell Hybrid sows to the commercial herds.

The multiplier herds are operated as independent breeders owned by the multiplier themselves, who have signed a "multiplier agreement” with the "Pig Research Centre".
